IMORTAL vs MULAWIN
With the 3 directors united to make the newest kapamilya show (ABS-CBN 2) Imortal has finally hit the philippine tv screen yesterday october 4 after several teasers and criticisms. Though, netizens have mixed emotions regarding the show; some claims that there are more negative twits about Imortal than positive ones; worse anti-angel locsin fans connote Imortal as “Imoral” (which is aggraviated by the recent controversy involving john loyd cruz and his girl friend).
However, plenty of kampamilya fans and other who loved the show says that Imortal is something to be proud of just like Lobo.
Some anti-Imortal netizens say that most of the concept of the show is based on other famous vampire stories naming: Twilight, Underworld and Interview with the Vampire. And, says that Grazilda is worth watching that the corny tandem of Angel and John Loyd.
My Reaction:
GMA has proven their skills and talents in making hit telenovelas and fantaserye just like the hit show “Mulawin”. I think Imortal not very much different than Mulawin.
After watching the pilot episode of Imortal I let my self get intrigued with the story and ignore the huge comparison with other vampire movies. But, unlike other vampire movies, Imortal is smartly given a different twist; however, we still can’t deny that such twist is an alibi to get away from any copy-cat allegations. What I love about the show is its great cinematography and screen play (I’ll just ignore the poor portrayal of the animated wolf because people has no idea how hard in major-major way to make one move around your tv screen).
What i don’t like about the show is its lack of historical details that really made it look like a copy from other vampire movies. This is very obvious with the use of the image: the make up. The eye colors are great, but the white face powder just made them look not so different than a ghost. If they are using other vampire movies as basis for creating an image of the character, they shouldn’t just rely there, because they might copy the same mistakes as other vampire movie did. The white powder never works…it made them look funny and less attractive.
